Portable Air Conditioning Rentals
Tampa pushes average daily highs near 91°F through July and August, and permanent HVAC has a habit of failing exactly then. Our portable AC fleet covers spot coolers, air-cooled and water-cooled DX package units, and evaporative coolers from 1 to 25 tons — sized to your square footage and heat load, delivered on a truck, and running before we leave. No installation, no capital purchase, no waiting on a contractor.
Cooling Units Available in Tampa Bay
Every unit below is stored indoors, serviced between rentals, and delivered with the ducting and drainage it needs. Not sure which capacity fits? The sizing guide underneath this grid does most of the work — or we’ll size it for you free.

How Much Cooling Do You Actually Need?
One ton of cooling equals 12,000 BTU per hour. As a rough starting point, plan on one ton per 400 square feet in a standard interior space — then add capacity for sun exposure, high ceilings, open doors, crowds, and heat-generating equipment. These are the numbers we start from before we look at your specific site.
| Unit | Capacity | Typical Coverage | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–Ton Portable AC | 12,000 BTU · 120V | Up to ~400 sq ft | Offices, server closets, trailers, single hot rooms |
| 5–Ton Portable AC | 60,000 BTU · 208/230V | ~1,500–2,000 sq ft | Server rooms, retail floors, production areas, AC-failure callouts |
| 7.5–Ton Outdoor DX Package | 90,000 BTU · 240V 3–phase | ~2,500–3,000 sq ft | Ducted tents, temporary structures, outdoor-rated installs |
| 25–Ton Portable A/C | 300,000 BTU | ~8,000–10,000 sq ft | Warehouses, hangars, large tented events, industrial floors |
| Evaporative Cooler (11,000 CFM) | Airflow-rated | ~2,000–3,000 sq ft open air | Open-sided tents, loading docks, patios, covered outdoor areas |
Coverage figures are planning estimates for Florida conditions, not guarantees. Ceiling height, insulation, direct sun, door traffic, and equipment load all move the number — which is why we size every job individually before quoting.
Spot Cooler, Package Unit, or Evaporative Cooler?
All three cool, but they solve different problems. Choosing wrong is the most common reason a rental underperforms in Florida humidity.
Spot coolers
Refrigerant-based units that push cold air exactly where you point the duct and vent hot air out through a window, ceiling, or door. They dehumidify as they run, so they work in enclosed spaces regardless of Florida humidity. Best for server rooms, workstations, single rooms, and equipment that must stay within a temperature range.
DX package units
Larger outdoor-rated systems on 240V or 480V three-phase power, ducted into tents, temporary structures, or buildings with failed rooftop equipment. These carry real tonnage — 7.5 to 25 tons — and are the answer when a whole floor, hangar, or event structure needs conditioned air, not a cold corner.
Evaporative coolers
Also called swamp coolers: they move very high volumes of air across a wet media, dropping temperature without refrigerant or ducting. They need airflow to work, so they belong in open-sided tents, loading docks, garages, and patios — not sealed rooms, where they add humidity instead of removing it.
What Tampa Bay Rents Portable AC For
AC Emergencies
When rooftop equipment fails in August, spot coolers keep a lobby, office floor, or restaurant open while the permanent system gets repaired or replaced. We keep units staged for same-day response where availability allows.
Server & Equipment Rooms
Network closets and server rooms shut down long before people do. A dedicated spot cooler holds the temperature during an HVAC outage, a remodel, or a load increase your building cooling was never designed for.
Tents & Outdoor Events
A white tent in Florida sun becomes an oven by noon. Ducted package units cool enclosed tents for weddings and galas; evaporative coolers handle open-sided tents, vendor rows, and covered gathering areas.
Warehouses & Jobsites
Distribution floors, hangars, construction trailers, and shop bays get temporary cooling for a season, a project, or a heat wave — sized to the space instead of the whole building, so you only cool what you’re actually using.
Portable AC Rental FAQs
What size portable AC do I need?
Start at roughly one ton per 400 square feet, then adjust up for high ceilings, direct sun, open doors, crowds, and equipment heat. A 400 sq ft office is usually a 1-ton unit; a 2,000 sq ft server-heavy space is closer to 5 tons. Give us the room dimensions and what’s in it and we’ll size it at no charge.
Does a portable AC need to vent outside?
Yes. Refrigerant-based units move heat out of the space, so that heat has to go somewhere — through a window kit, a drop ceiling, a doorway duct, or an outside wall. We handle the venting at setup. Evaporative coolers are the exception: they need fresh airflow instead of an exhaust path.
What power does each unit require?
The 1-ton unit runs on a standard 120V wall outlet. Five-ton units typically need 208/230V, and the outdoor DX packages run 240V or 480V three-phase. If your site can’t supply it, we pair the cooling with a generator and distribution from our own fleet on the same order.
How does an evaporative cooler perform in Florida humidity?
Evaporative coolers work best with good airflow and lower humidity, so in Tampa we deploy them for open-air use — tents with open sides, loading docks, patios, garages — where constant fresh air keeps them effective. For sealed indoor spaces or humid days when you need true dehumidification, a refrigerant spot cooler is the right call.
Can you deliver same day for an AC failure?
Often, yes. We answer the phone 24/7 and keep units staged for emergencies, though availability tightens during heat waves and storm season. Call (813) 516-0604 with your address and the size of the space and we’ll tell you honestly what we can get there and when.
How long can I keep a rental unit?
From a single day to several months. Daily, weekly, and monthly rates are available, and longer terms bring the daily cost down. Seasonal cooling contracts are common for warehouses and facilities that only need extra capacity from May through October.
